Interpreting Your Allocation Results
After entering your assets and clicking calculate, the results page presents two main views: a detailed table and a visual pie chart. Understanding both helps you quickly assess your portfolio's structure and identify areas that may need attention.
The Allocation Table
The table lists every asset with its name, dollar value, and exact percentage. Values appear formatted with US dollar signs and commas for readability. Percentages are shown to two decimal places so even small differences stand out. The total row at the bottom confirms everything adds up to one hundred percent and displays the grand total in dollars.
Scan the table from largest to smallest percentage. The top few rows reveal your primary exposures. If the first position exceeds forty or fifty percent, you are heavily concentrated in that asset. Multiple positions in the ten to twenty percent range usually indicate reasonable balance.
The Pie Chart
The pie chart turns percentages into an immediate visual story. Each slice is colored differently and sized according to its weight. The legend on the right matches colors to asset names. Hovering over any slice displays the asset name, dollar value, and precise percentage.
A large single slice dominates the view when concentration is high. Evenly sized slices suggest diversification. When many small slices crowd the chart, it becomes harder to distinguish individual contributions visually. That is why the tool warns you when you exceed ten assets.
Key Insights to Look For
- Concentration risk: any single asset over thirty to forty percent deserves review
- Diversification level: five to eight meaningful positions often provide good spread
- Unexpected skew: if one category dominates unexpectedly, check your inputs
- Tiny positions: allocations below one percent may not meaningfully impact risk
Using Results for Decisions
Compare the current allocation to your target strategy. If reality deviates significantly, consider rebalancing by adding to underweighted areas or trimming overweight positions. Regular checks help you stay aligned with your long-term goals without emotional bias.
The combination of precise numbers and clear visuals makes interpretation fast and intuitive. Use it as a quick health check whenever your holdings change.
